Matt Reeves: Villain in The Batman Part II Has Never Appeared in a Film

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Matt Reeves, writer and director of The Batman Part II, promises that the sequel’s villain has never before been depicted in a film.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Reeves said the new installment will place greater emphasis on Bruce Wayne: “The first one was very much focused on Batman.”
He explained that while previous Batman films explored the character’s backstory, The Batman Part II will portray the man behind the mask in new ways: “In many of the other films I love, once they cover his origin story—which we only alluded to rather than fully explored—they quickly move into the ‘Rogues Gallery’ and that kind of character evolution. But I never wanted [Robert Pattinson] to be anything but central to these stories. That’s the goal.”
Reeves added that this perspective guided his choice of villain, and teased that the antagonist selected “has never before been in a film.”
The filmmaker had previously told Variety that he delivered the script for The Batman Part II to Pattinson in a “classified briefcase.”
Colin Farrell, who played Penguin in the first film, called the screenplay by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin “unbelievable” during an interview on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show: “It’s such a great script. My God, Matt Reeves is so good. It’s extraordinary.”
The Batman Part II is scheduled to begin filming in spring 2026 and will be released in theaters in October 2027.
